Men’s Mental Health Awareness

Hello Champion:

November is men’s mental health awareness month. This month is meant to be spent improving not only physical health, but mental health as well. As men, we must normalize conversations about mental well-being and vulnerability.

Everyone knows the stigma around men and mental health. However, the stigma of thinking men are weak for discussing their mental health issues is false. Now more than ever we are seeing male athletes come out and speaking about their struggles with mental health.

Calvin Ridley is the latest in this trend. Ridley has decided to take time away from football in order to focus on bettering his mental health. This move shows true strength within Ridley. Many men, especially athletes, would rather suffer through it than help themselves. This is all due to an out of touch stigma around mental health. We must completely get rid of this notion and continue bettering ourselves

Bettering ourselves everyday should be your mission. In order to do that you must take into account your mental health and vocalize your journey. Take care of your mental health like you take care of your physical health. Work on it everyday!

Here are our three strategies to make mental health a priority:

  1. Spend the month of November focusing on one mental health habit.

  2. Dedicate as much time on mental health as your physical health.

  3. Speak out against the mental health stigma; Be the change that creates a new norm.

Remember, masking troubles can only last for so long. Real men are willing to seek help and speak up!
